It sure is! Not sure what I was missing initially...maybe the departure from what they were doing on The Apostasy and Evangelion threw me a bit.

But man...album is SO good. And I think it gets better the further into the album you get.

I love Geoff Tate's 1 inch vertical ability.

For about a week and a half, I have been on a total "classic" era Metallica mania.  Can't remember when I last had one of those-- maybe when that awesome Cliff Burton book came some years back.  I think this one coincides with the release of the Back to the Front coffee table book.

Steady diet of
Kill 'em All
Ride the Lightning
Garage Days Revisited
Master of Puppets
$5.98 EP

and to a lesser degree
...And Justice for All
Garage, Inc.

Still goosebumps, man, on those first 3, just like the mid to late 80's.

What are they now?  Outside of curiosity, don't really care.  The memory remains. Wink

Pick up St. Anger-- it's got a raw, garage-y feel.

Not metal but saw Skynyrd last week and they were awesome.  Stuck to the classic 5 albums only and really put on a hell of a show.  Rickey Medlocke is a fucking crazy guitar player.

Sold out show of 5000 outdoors on Friday night in South Carolina, full moon over left side of the stage and Williams Brice Stadium (home of the Gamecocks) over the right-- a total southern experience for sure.

And yes, they played Free Bird.

Set:
Workin' For MCA
What's Your Name
You Got That Right
Saturday Night Special
Honky Tonk Night Time Man
That Smell
Simple Man
Gimme Back My Bullets
The Needle and the Spoon
Tuesday's Gone
Gimme Three Steps
Call Me the Breeze
Sweet Home Alabama

Encore:
the 13+ minute version of Free Bird

Kinda weird-- Iron Maiden uses Doctor, Doctor and Priest uses War Pigs piped over the PA as their last songs before hitting the stage and those make sense to me-- Skynyrd uses...AC/DC-- Thunderstruck?  Whatever.
