Owls kick ass

Saw an owl eating a rodent in my backyard early this morning,,,,,

I'd like to see that!  It's certainly rare to see them out even in the early morning.

We always have the kids dissect owl pellets for skeletal remains at 6th Grade camp.  They always think it's crap.  When I tell them it's puke, they're slightly less grossed out.

Unfortunately, in my entire life,  I've only seen 1 owl out in the wild.

A couple months ago I was running the tree-lined perimeter of a field at 5am and the moon was still up, lighting everything up nicely.
I had my music cranked and out of the corner of my eye I caught sight of a HUGE shadow passing the moon-- I instinctively threw up my hands and then saw it was an owl flying about 20-30 feet over me and landing on a tree-- it was fucking awesome after I recovered from my near heart attack...

The only one I saw was on the side of the highway chillin' on the guard rail.

Oddly enough, it was the exact same spot where I saw a hawk swoop down and grab a field mouse a few weeks earlier.

Seeing the outline of a HUGE ass bird when the sun has already gone down over your head on the highway is very cool.
