I have often, in the past, professed my love for this band. Despite being a thrash band from California they, at least on their first two (and really only essential) albums, don't have the usual melodic California sound. Rather, melody is thrown out of the window and speed is forced into place. And oh, how it works! oh, the brutality!
I sometimes wonder why this band is forgotten when people are naming Californian thrash bands... Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, Exodus, Anthrax, Slayer... yet Sadus nearly never comes up, and I do believe, with the possible exception of Slayer, that Sadus are better than all of them. Yes, I said it. Megadeth bores me and, according to heavy metal breakdown, I cry in fear when I hear Hetfield's vocals. Whatever. I'll keep on pumping my fist to Kill Team while he sucks his own cock to One.
Perhaps it's BECAUSE Sadus are too fast, too raw, too in your face to be as popular as the other bands.
Who cares? SADUS FUCKING ROCK

I think Illusions & Swallowed in Black are great albums but still prefer all the other bands listed (save Exodus). For me those other bands have something more I can latch onto beyond aggression. For my tastes, the best thrash bands write songs that get to me first and then bust my balls along with it. I'm not saying Sadus don't do that to some degree but, especially on Illusions, that wasn't the focus. That's OK. It's a fantastic album. They're a great band. I just like the others better.
For as great as these albums are:
Sadus "Illusions"
Kreator "Pleasure to Kill"
Morbid Saint "Spectrum of Death"
Sepultura "Schizophrenia"
Devastation "Signs of Life"
I prefer when bands put it all together mixing brutality, technicality, and a little more memorable/involved songwriting like:
Demolition Hammer "Tortured Existence"
Sepultura "Beneath The Remains"
Kreator "Extreme Aggression"
Devastation "Idolatry"
Sodom "Tapping The Vein"
Pestilence "Malleus Maleficarum"
All things said, Sadus does rock!

I have Chemical Exposure and Visions Of Misery filed in my collection, but it's been years since I listened to either...
SADUS is one of those bands that never totally "clicked" with me for some obscure reason, time to re-visit them perhaps?
Frak! I even forgot to put them on my thrash metal Vol.2 compilation!!!

Good band, but I've always found them a few notches below the big names you listed.

That line right there is why Sadus will always be a second or third tier band for me. Melody isn't really the sticking point though, it's more about the memorable riffs. And while I think Sadus have plenty of those, it's the speed for speeds sake that loses my interest.
Great band, no doubt about that, all those guys are pretty amazing, but these guys almost fall into the same place as some of Dark Angel's stuff where it's just too fast for it's own good in places and because of the constant barrage of speed, a lot of the focus is lost on me.

....a thrash band from California...
.....the usual melodic California sound.
...Californian thrash bands... Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, Exodus, Anthrax,
Anthrax!?! WTF!?!?
Anyway yeah, this band is one I didn't even hear of until years and years later but I'd agree, they should've been way bigger of a deal than they were.
