I've been curious about it but I probably only know the bigger bands in there.

You should read the Rock Detector Death Metal book then. Good lord at the band names in this thing

Oh I'm sure!!!!
I'm not really interested in that. 99% of the death metal that I listen to is from the first wave and then some of the stuff out of Gothenburg. Once it became more about blasting incessantly and out brutal-ing the next band, I lost interest.

"Choosing Death" would be the book for you then. Good history of DMs roots.
Venom, I don't know? I was hoping to get a few opinions (as it's expensive on amazon and not at my local bookstores), but I'll probably drop it as a Valentine's Hint for my wife

Choosing Death should have been subtitled "The History of Napalm Death". I mean, I understand ND importance, but they seemed like the frame of reference for nearly the entire thing.
Not a bad book though.

Yea, Choosing Death was pretty much the history of Napalm Death but it was an excellent read. Tons of cool info on the whole scene. I loved it.

Come to think of it, I went on a Napalm Death frenzy for a few days after reading it as well.
