What was I thinking? A new beat up guitar??????

I did something I thought I wouldn't do agin, at least for quite some time.  I bought another guitar. 

Fender came out with a new line just last week called the "Road Worn" Series.  It's a standard Strat that has been aged to simulate the feel of a vintage guitar that has been played hard for quite some time.  There are dings and dents, the necks have a lot of wear on them and there is discoloration on the finish.  But you know what? They play like a dream!  I have always been interested in their "Relic" series that was only available through their Custom Shop..... but wasn't going to pay 2 or 3 grand for one.  This is their mass produced line and I'm amazed at how well they play.  I had gone into Guitar Center to just check them out but ended up walking away with one that looks just like the photo.  Played it for abut an hour in the store and then went outside and tried to have my wife talk some sense into me.    She was all for it, I mean, you only live once!  So I've been playing my ass off for the past few days and I love it more ever time I pick it up.

What is it with guitar players and their need for gear?

I have no idea!!    It's crazy.  I have a Line 6 Variax guitar...... which is a modeling guitar.  Basically, I can turn a knob on it and it simulates the sound (pretty damn well I might add) of about 25 different guitars.  Les Pauls, Strats, Hollowbodies, Acoustics, even a banjo and a sitar.  So I obviously don't need another one but man, this one plays so amazingly, I just HAD to have it.  I just look at it and it wants me to play it.

It's a chronic disorder called "GAS".  Gear acquisition syndrome.  Researchers say there is no cure as of today.

Funny you should post that.  Part of the reason I grew up loving Strats is because of that exact guitar Dave Murry has in that pic and also because Glenn Tipton used to have a black on black Strat that I really liked. 

Years later Stevie Ray Vaughn came along and truly showed me the true beauty of these guitars and the magic that can come out of one.

I can appreciate what he has done but Yngwie does absolutely nothing for me.  Satriani and Steve Vai impress me with their technicality (and even that gets old) but Yngwie?  All I hear is a million notes that are technically perfect but it's among the most emotionless music I have ever heard.  And even though I love the sound of a Strat, I don't like his tone.  Just not a fan I'm afraid.

Everytime I get something new, I say that's the last piece of equipment I need to buy.  Well....... until the next cool toy comes around.    It's one disease I hope they don't find a cure for!
