Affluent, successful people are generally more approachable and friendlier than the "general public".

I have been fortunate enough over the years to spend time with several very rich and successful people in social settings and I've found that they are generally friendlier than the general public.  Many people view such people as aloof and unapproachable,,,,,I find that to be totally inaccurate.

Depends on the person. Some are, some aren;t it all depends on the person.  The ones that are celebrities/athletes tend to not fall into this category, but business people do.  IMO, I think it is because they have actually had to work to get where they are and understand normal people since they work with them on a daily basis whereas celebrities/athletes are pretty much detached from them. Opinions Mosh?

With business people, it's more like a learned skill...the more approachable you are (in theory), the more it will benefit your business...

Honestly, though-- how many *rich* or extremely wealthy 'business people' understand 'normal people' because they 'work with them on a daily basis'?

What kind of wealth are we talking about here-- someone that makes $250,000 a year?  $500,000 a year?  How much?

I'm referring to people who are multi-millionaires.

Ok.  Then I definitely do not think it's because they work 'with normal people' on a daily basis.

The very first family I ever tutored privately are just outstanding people.  I would go to war with him if he needed the help.  I'm tutoring his youngest daughter today and the oldest son is now a junior at Arizona State.  I started tutoring this family when he was an 8th grader......how time flies by.

He is VERY affluent.  He has a 7,500 square foot home in Yorba Linda....a VERY classy area of Orange County.
The house has to have an estimated worth of about 3 mil.  I believe he has put a half a million in the backyard alone.  It's just beautiful.  And when I tutor his kids, he is always making sure that I get paid.

Maybe it's because they are doing what they want to do in life, unlike regular people who are working jobs that they don't like so they can pay the bills.

Completely dependent on experience and circumstance I guess.  My wife worked at two different country clubs as a server and was treated like garbage on a daily basis.  Some of the worst and most outlandish experiences of her life.  She's a kind, mild tempered person too so she wasn't asking for it.  Certainly not all patrons were of that nature but the unbelievable rudeness of some of them was astonishing.

She actually had a guest of one of the members come up to her in the back of the club to tell her how terrible a job she did that night and proceeded to tell her all the things she didn't like about her and all the things she did wrong.  She left my wife by wishing her well as she learned how to do her job right in the future because my wife was "obviously new" and didn't know what she was doing.  She'd been there for 6 months.

Of course I could tell you a crap load of stories about delivering pizza to the ghetto and you'd hear the same kind of things.

Well,,,,,that's not exactly a social interaction, that's a customer/employee interacation,,,,,but it's still inidicative of the stereotypical interactions between the affluent and the "normal",,,,,I just haven't found the stereotype to be accurate,,,,,

Agreed and I don't know any of those people at all.  I try not to judge anyone if I don't know them well.  That even applies to anyone on message boards where we've interacted for years.  I've got to know someone personally.  I'm not sure how they treat their contemporaries or the average Joe around town.  That said, it certainly doesn't color my view any better though.  I wouldn't expect to be treated well by the mentioned individuals in any situation.
