I'm looking at options. Christy's sister comes into town here on the 16th for the Inauguration so I don't think she'll be able to go but I'd like to still try and make it. Comparing prices for driving up vs. a flight into Buffalo.
Anyone else from out of town considering it?

The Holiday Inn Express where we stayed for DOTE is $109 a night for a room. That was a decent place to stay.

I am considering it, but leaning toward not going. That could be a really nasty drive for me in the middle of January.

That's my biggest concern about driving up there too. I'd save a ton of money but it might not be worth the savings.

Looking at it, but flights are really pricey and my new schedule covering that time is just coming out this week...
I'd very much like to go, though.

Flying into Buffalo was
much
cheaper than going straight into Toronto. It's only a few hours away depending on how long the border crossing takes.

Wow, it definitely is-- about 1/2 the price. I'll keep looking at it depending on the new schedule.

Holy shit, I was just rechecking through US Airways and there's nonstop Charlotte (2.25 hour drive away) to Toronto for $288 + tax, which is just over half of what a one-stop Delta flight out of Atlanta is...
Damn, I almost hate it when things start to fall together, but am waiting on other things to materialize...

I'd like to but that's a terrible time of the year to travel weather wise, and I'm not commiting to anything in 2009 until I (hopefully) survive company layoffs.

Do I need a passport to cross the border by car?
I know you need it by plane.

I'm not sure. I sounds like all you need right now is a drivers license or other form of ID. A Passport would make it easier though. Here's a link:

We (as a family) keep saying that we need to apply for passports, but we never do.
It looks like I am OK with DL and Birth Certificate. This is what we needed for the cruise to Mexico last August.
So......anyone want to say.....meet in buffalo...share a rental car and maybe rooms?
I still have to talk to my better half about this.
