OK, first things first-- no, I don't believe this album is better than Blind, but Blind always seems to get the bulk of attention when it comes to 'modern era' COC, and while that album is probably top 20 of all time for me, I also believe that Deliverance is not that far behind.

Deliverance
I remember hearing some negative musings about this album before its release-- "They've gone southern rock" and things of that nature, so I was extremely skeptical.  The return of Mike Dean, though, gave me additional hope that something exciting/different would be coming from the band.

I first heard this album the month it was released-- Sept 1994-- I was sitting in a friend's car in Seattle, and he played it for me-- from the opening fuzz of Heaven's Not Overflowing, I knew this was going to be a thick monster of an album.  Sure, some of the bite of "Blind" was gone, but was replaced by a still-fitting smoothness; Agell's unmistakable vocals were also sadly gone, but again, the triple vocal attack of Keenan/Dean/Mullin totally made this acceptable.

As luck would have it, the band was scheduled to play a club 2 blocks from my dorm the following month, with EYEHATEGOD opening, for the great price of $2.99.  We made sure we got there early and were within the first 20 people in the door.  Seeing this incarnation of the band plug through most of this album, at least half of Blind, and a handful of early classics made this one of the most memorable shows of all time.  Southern-twinged?  Sure, a little bit, but still thick and heavy as hell, and the Blind-era stuff sounded excellent as well (I'd seen the band on that tour as well, but for a very abbreviated set).

I was lucky enough to also catch them on this tour a second time in 1995 when they did a theater tour with Monster Magnet-- another excellent show.

Favorite song from the album would be either Heaven's Not Overflowing, Deliverance, or Seven Days...

   1.  Heaven's Not Overflowing
   2. Albatross
   3. Clean My Wounds
   4. Without Wings
   5. Broken Man
   6. Senor Limpio
   7. Mano De Mono
   8. Seven Days
   9. #2121313
  10. My Grain
  11. Deliverance
  12. Shake Like You
  13. Big Problem
  14. Shelter
  15. Pearls Before Swine

EDIT: A bone for all the Blind-lovers-- the live version with super-fast ending of "Dance of the Dead" on this tour:

Blind was such a kick in the nuts that I remember feeling really let down the first time I heard Deliverance.
Having said that, I kinda rediscovered it 10 years later and what a difference those 10 years made. This is pretty much a stoner rock album and it really stand on it's own within the COC discography. This is where Pepper really became the band's driving force.

A truly underrated gem, good pick Zeke  cheers

Neither of those albums touch Animosity but yeah they're both alright.

And Blind is better than Deliverance.  jester

Claymore plays this album occasionally while we're driving somewhere and I think it's great.
But then if I play it by myself, I'm bored pretty quickly.  Dunno why, I just am.
