That's the cool thing about these lists, if we would all agree it would be quite boring...
For example, I also left the latest Metallica off my Top 20
While my initial reaction was quite positive; after the dust settled, I asked myself if Death Magnetic was a release from an unknown band, would I give it more than a few spins? and the honest truth was probably not...
Something's missing; it just feels like an unfinished album, especially the weak production, can't really see this standing the test of time.
Flame away if you'd like!

Surely IRONSWORD is better than the new MANILLA ROAD by a million miles.

Yeah, I should reverse those two. Agreed.

K-I thought you hated "Nostradamus", how did it make your list (by default, perhaps)

When paired down to 10 songs, which I've done, I don't mind it too much.
Plus, I only bought 25 08 albums, so it's near the bottom as it is.

yeah but that is cheating....You have to judge the album on it's merits as a whole.

1. Cooper, Alice “Along Came A Spider”
2. Darkane “Demonic Art”
3. Septic Flesh “Communion”
4. Volbeat “Guitar Gansters and Cadillac Blood”
5. Lanfear “X To The Power Of Ten”
6. Rage “Carved In Stone”
7. Opeth “Watershed”
8. Paradox “Electrify”
9. Perzonal War “Bloodline”
10 Esoteric "The Maniacal Veil"
11. Jon Oliva’s Pain “Global Warning”
12. Soilent Green “Inevitable Collapse In The Presence of Conviction”
13. Metallica “Death Magnetic”
14. Manilla Road “Voyager”
15. Whitesnake “Good To Be Bad”
16. Zero Hour “Dark Deceiver”
17. Testament “The Formation of Damnation”
18. Def Leppard “Songs From The Sparkle Lounge”
19. Enslaved “Vertebrae”
20. Tesla “Forever More”
General comments:
Def Leppard tops Enslaved.
It's both good and bad. I seriously enjoyed the new Def Leppard, as dumb as that may be, and the new Enslaved is, as of now, my least favorite in the catalog.
The new Alice Cooper is now officially my favorite since Welcome to My Nightmare and I love and own all Alice's albums.
I still have 5 2008 albums coming the mail that I'm guaranteed to love:
Secret Sphere "Sweet Blood Theory"
Hammers of Misfortune "Fields/Church of Broken Glass"
Cynic "Traced in Air"
Serenity "Fallen Sanctuary"
Theocracy "Mirror of Souls"
So, my list will change in the future.

Wow, best Alice Cooper release since Welcome To My Nightmare you say, and your #1 pick of the year???
Sounds too good to be true, but you truly picked my curiosity on something I shamefully didn't even bother to consider... until NOW!
BTW, nice list Mak

Well, to put it in context, I've loved his last three albums, Eyes of Alice Cooper, Dirty Diamonds and of course, the new album. I already thought Dirty Diamonds held that mark, being better than some gems in between Welcome and now. So if you enjoyed what you heard of those previous two, I prefer the new album to those. The albums it had to compete with to hold that title were Dirty Diamonds, The Last Temptation, From The Inside and Goes To Hell. To a lesser extent, Zipper Catches Skin and Raise Your Fist and Yell. Those are the big albums for me since the "golden" age of AC.
Also, Bleak posted saying he thought the new one sucked and was possible the worst Alice Cooper ever. I think he's insane but clearly there are some differing opinions. Of course, in this case, I'm right.
Thanks for the compliment. I never realize how wide my tastes can be till I put together my year end lists. Then I just scratch my head and chuckle at how weird it looks.

I'm in the same boat. I own and enjoy every Alice Cooper album. I think he's crazy. It's not even that different. Besides, how does one refute the +80 enjoyable times I've listened to the album?
