What can be said about this masterpiece of rock! Too many people dis this album and the title track now but back in the 80's it was a massive hit.
Fuck man Im no good at these threads, dont even know why Im bothering as Im sure its gonna get slated, but what the fuck, I love it and I was blasting it in my van today and decided it needed some respect.  beerbang

The first three Europe albums rule!  This one is pure rock/metal genius despite the all too heavy use of keyboards on a number of tracks.  Yeah it's poppy but it perfectly written.  Rock The Night, Ninja, On The Loose are all heavy hard rock songs straight in the Thin Lizzy influence (Joey and John's favorite band).  The title track is still a classic and aside from Carrie with it's goofball 80s keys I crank this whole album this  a several times a year for a few days straight.

As for the true classic of their catalog I'd pick Wings of Tomorrow.  It's a perfect mix of the classic metal found on the debut (which rules also) and the varied songwriting found on The Final Countdown.

I think anyone into Thin Lizzy, straight ahead 80's metal like the first Queensryche Ep, and Iron Maiden owes themselves a shot at the debut.  If for no other reason, listen to it for one of the greatest metal tunes ever, Seven Doors Hotel.  Killer song based on a killer movie, Fulci's "The Beyond."  devilbang

Those wacky Europeans put the date first and then the month.  Wacky I say.

You know, I never pushed further into this band's catalogue after first being exposed to it with 'The Final Countdown', a dipshit tune if I ever heard one. Now, I know a great many swear by this song, but not me.

The singer also had the worst poodle-look, ever. John Norum was a good player, though, from what little I have heard, and from what many who know of such things tell me.

Over the years, however, I have heard many speak of the killer stuff on the early albums, so perhaps one day I will scoop those up.

UK date format is day month year not the wrong way round like you lot, I thought a teacher would know that  Up To Something

Glad to see so many posotive posts about this, Im honestly suprised!  I also love wings of tomorrow, but the first album just doesnt do it for me. Out of this world and prisoners in paradise are ok, but not a touch on the 2nd and third albums, and all the recent ones just plain suck!

Not a fan, but I have to admit I never gave that band a fair chance...
