Damn You All To Hell

Released on January 12, 1969

1. Good Times Bad Times (Page/Jones/Bonham)
2. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You (Page/Plant/Anne Bredon)
3. You Shook Me (Willie Dixon)
4. Dazed and Confused (Page)
5. Your Time Is Gonna Come (Page/Jones)
6. Black Mountain Side (Page)
7. Communication Breakdown (Page/Jones/Bonham)
8. I Can't Quit You Baby (Willie Dixon)
9. How Many More Times (Page/Jones/Bonham)

No introduction is needed for this classic masterpiece and defining moment in Rock history. The first Zep record is arguably the propeller for what was to become Heavy Metal; it established Jimmy Page as the quintessential guitar hero of the seventies and Robert Plant as THE ultimate vocal god. It also boasted the powerful rhythm section of John Paul Jones and John Bonham, with the latter being the heaviest hitter the world had ever known and probably the most inspiring drummer of all time. This album is so raw and full of primal energy that even the barebones production cannot take away it's overwhelming power. Songs like Dazed and Confused, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Communication Breakdown and How Many More Times still blow my mind even if I listened to them over a thousand times. This one is for the history books.

Solid debut album, but I'm probably against the grain when choosing my fav tunes off this one.  Most would say Good Times, Bad Times and Dazed and Confused, but for me it's the bluesy tracks Babe I'm Gonna Leave You and I Can't Quit you Baby that are my favs.  In all a very good album.  Not as good as Presence [but then again, none of their albums are] but good nonetheless.

Am not as enamored with this album as many are.  My favorite tracks would be "You Shook Me", "Communication Breakdown", and "I Can't Quit You Baby".

I found Led Zeppelin much more engaging when I was much younger.

If you ever get the chance, give a listen to Jeff Healey's instrumental version of "Communication Breakdown",,,,,nothing groundbreaking, but worth a listen,,,,,

A massively important album to be sure. But I think Zeppelin became a much better band with its later records.

I can't say that I love the album.  I do like it, but I prefer some of their later albums.

It's a good album but has never been a big favorite from their catalog.  It's a good blues/rock album in general.  Communication Breakdown is awesome as well as Babe I'm Gonna Leave You.  Great White did an amazing version of that back in the mid-90's.

I agree it's far from being the pinnacle of Led Zep's career, but it was truly revolutionary at the time of it's release in January 1969. A true milestone for Hard Rock's evolution that was recorded in just about 36 hours of studio time. To put it in context it was released more than a year before Black Sabbath would release their debut...  I can't imagine how mind-blowing it must have been for people who actually heard this when it came out!   smoking

This was never a Zep favourite for me.

But II... well, that was something.
