Being that it is Halloween, today's Classic Album of the Day will be metal's own Helloween! Their 1985 full length debut was a tremendous slab of speedy German metal that to this day is my favorite album by the band. At the time, I equated them to the German version of Metallica.  lol That was based on this one album only of somewhat speed metal and that view quickly changed with the Keeper albums.

Track Listing:

   1. Walls Of Jericho
   2. Ride The Sky
   3. Reptile
   4. Guardians
   5. Phantoms Of Death
   6. Metal invaders
   7. Gorgar
   8. Heavy Metal (Is The Law)
   9. How Many Tears

My least favorite Helloween release.  The vocals are almost too awful to listen to.  If I listen to songs like Victim of Fate then I play the Kiske version.  Honestly, it's hard to believe this is the same band.  I just don't connect with this album at all.  3/10

Sounds like paint-by-numbers speed metal to me, and the demo quality of the recording doesn't help either!  Really, for the most influential power metal band ever there are a bunch of albums they've done that are light years beyond this.

IMO, power-speed metal doesn't get much better than this.  It's a lot rougher and tougher than what they went on to be (which was also good), but this disc never ever gets old for me.  Top 10 of all time for me as far as I'm concerned.

Favorite songs- Ride the Sky, Guardians and How Many Tears.

Is this even on CD without the Halloween EP?  I'm so used to them flowing together that I think of both of them as Walls Of Jericho even though I know they technically aren't.

Just, amazing.  bowdown devilbang devilbang devilbang devilbang devilbang devilbang
