I remember Eddie saying how "Eruption" was an accident...he was just warming up...there's even a mistake in the beginning...says he didn't know they were recording & it ended up on the album...

I do too actually. The only albums out of the 6 with DLR I listen to are: VH1, W&C 1st and 1984.  The only one I don't care for with Sammy is OU812, which I find boring as hell.

OU812 was the weakest of the Hagar era...but still had some good songs on it...

I will give you those 2 but that's it....When I made a best of Van Halen-The Sammy Hagar Years, I think that is all I could stomach from that album.  I stand corrected...I added Black and Blue as well.

"Only time will tell if we stand the test of time"

One of the dumbest lines I've ever heard.  lol

Well........ duh!  lol

I definitely like the Roth era more.

One of the very greatest debut heavy metal records of all time. Untouchable.

P.S. Eddie was working his solo out for that night's gig when Ted heard what he was up to. He told Eddie it needed to be on the record. Hence "Eruption", the single most important guitar solo in the annals of rock music.

This album is fantastic.  The hits are perhaps too familiar for me to go back to it often but there's no doubt that it's brilliant and pretty close to perfection even as a debut.  I would have loved to be in the same room as many of the guitar gods of the 70's when they first heard the lead work on this album.  Even the best would have been running to their gear trying to figure out what the heck was going on.
