I've only heard two Fates albums, Awaken the Guardian and FWX.
If you like Rage/Mindcrime era Queensryche, you'd probably like this album. It has a similar feel.
except this album is harder and not with a softer or hairmetal edge like Rage/Mindcrime Era Queensryche

I love this album. The music is perfect and came along at just the right time for me.
This album is proof that metal can be beautiful, and
attract
a male audience.
I cannot deny the brilliance that is Ray Alder. One of the few vocalists that my wife and I can agree on.

Well, it's a Fates Warning record, so of course I dig it (ha, ha). I love
Parallels
. The songs, singing, guitar sounds ... awesome.
It's likely that Fates Warning (with Ray) is my girl's favourite heavy metal band. This says a lot about the band's ability to meld metal to beautiful (as another member said) and sophisticated compositions, and provide lyrics that are very emotionally connecting.

I'll have to check more out then.
Awaken is awesome, but FWX was kinda blah.
This is probabbly heresy but of the Arch albums I prefer the Spectre Within
although Awaken is no slouch.

This album is AWESOME! The production is a little too clean and safe but songwriting is the best the band ever had with Alder. The Eleventh Hour is a stunning track and Leave The Past Behind is an incredible opener. The whole album is perfect and it remains my favorite Ray era Fates album. It maybe my favorite in general but I have a hard time comparing these albums to the brilliance of Awaken the Guardian. I've got to play this tomorrow.
Klsch: FWX stinks, their most boring release IMO and a big reason why I haven't missed them with Ray singing for Redemption.

Klsch: FWX stinks.
I'll respectfully disagree.

The one thing I miss is the guitar tone of the first few releases....

I love Parallels, but not quite as much as Perfect Symmetry. Ray Alder is a great singer in his own right but IMHO the original lineup with John Arch is without a doubt the classic era. The Specter Within and Awaken The Guardian are both masterpieces.
