Fates Warning - Parallels
1. Leave the Past Behind
2. Life in Still Water
3. Eye to Eye
4. The Eleventh Hour
5. Point of View
6. We Only Say Goodbye
7. Don't Follow Me
8. The Road Goes on Forever
This is easily my favorite Fates album. Everything about it screams "class". Love it.
Favorite song: We Only Say Goodbye

Zeke, have you never heard this or do you completely disagree with the "classic" status?

I'm just dumbstruck that you picked this album-- not denying it's classictivity-- just that you started a classic thread on this album...
I was expecting the Cro-Mags or Front Line Assembly or something...
Putting this disc on right now.

Front Line Assembly? You read Arsefaces post didn't you?
I have one album from them and listened to it maybe 3 times.

Release-- back to FW-- this is your favorite from them, eh? Are you more in the Alder camp then? What do you think of John Arch? His solo ep?

Even though I am more of the Fates Warning with John Arch guy, this is at least when Ray Alder had a range to his voice.... Good album. Listening to it now.

I love this album. The music is perfect and came along at just the right time for me.
And now I ramble: As for the other stuff, there are some parts I love from the other Alder albums (Quietus off No Exit is one of my favorites from them ever) and I like a lot of the Artch stuff too. His EP was excellent. Night on Brocken isn't one I listen to very often but Spectre and Awaken get plays every so often around here. They kinda lost me with Pleasant Shade of Grey and beyond though. Alder's voice (to me) fit better with Parallels and Perfect Symmetry stuff and seems too forced(?) on the newer stuff. Matheos' writing isn't as catchy either now. It's technically impressive but it seems there are less "songs" and more "ability" on display..... if that makes any sense. That's not to say I don't enjoy the newer stuff though. And if you haven't heard Matheos' first sole album First Impressions, it's totally worth looking into.

If you like Rage/Mindcrime era Queensryche, you'd probably like this album. It has a similar feel.

I'll have to check more out then.
Awaken is awesome, but FWX was kinda blah.
