ARCH/MATHEOS will perform their only US show of 2012 on May 5th at Webster Theater in Hartford, CT.

But I don't see that listed on the Arch/Matheos site, Metal Blade, or the Webster Theater schedule.
Please please please let it be real!!!!   Buck Teeth

I would LOVE to go to the show.

But, I am still trying to get back to even from the ProgPower show from last year.  cryingeyesout

I hear you, if I had gone to Progpower I would probably still be paying it off.

I can't believe I'm actually going to see John Arch live.   Evil Nana Evil Nana

So, now that I have the actual CD in my grubby hands, I took the CD to work and my 9-year old looked at the cover.

"Dad, is that guy on fire?"

"It looks like he is Josh."

"This is the coolest CD cover you have ever bought."

A terrific show.  Arch was clearly not in "I'm a rockstar, commanding the stage" mode, considering it's his second time on stage in 25 years, but holy smokes did he nail his vocals.

The show was absolutely amazing.  I had crazy high expectations because those early Fates albums really mean a lot to me, and I couldn't believe how well the band delivered.

They started off with the first two tracks from Sympathetic Resonance and as Sharktopus said, John Arch nailed every note.  He also didn't flub a single lyric the whole night as far as I could tell.  On the albums he does a lot of variations on repeated lyrics/chorus parts (something I wish more singers would do, btw) and he didn't miss any of them.
Frank Aresti actually suprised me as well - he did way more leads than I realized, and a lot of the ones that really stick w/ me from the album were his.

 - The Sorceress sounded WAY heavier than the album.  I love Awaken the Guardian but the production is well, ugh.  Hearing that song with good sound = awesome!
 - Stained Glass Sky.  Man I love the melodies in that song!!
 - Damnation is a good song but not one of my favorites.  I took a quick break and joined up with Sharktopus and friends.  Then the band went straight into the Apparition and I ran back into the crowd again since that's one of my favorite tracks, period.
 - Another one from Sympathetic Resonance - Any Given Day/Strangers Like Me.  Not my favorite off that cd but still damn good.

Then Jim Matheos started fooling around w/ the intro melody to the Guardian and everyone basically lost their minds in the crowd.  At first I was a little bummed that the song didn't start w/ the classical bit but as soon as the vocals came in, nothing else mattered.  Arch is just such a unique, talented vocalist.  To be his age, to not have played live in 25 years, and to sing those melodies so perfectly and with so much emotion is just incredible.  I wasn't the only one that was actually crying during the song (yeah, I know, gay   eviltongue).

 - Epitaph - like Damnation, a good  song but not one of my favorites.  Has a totally new feel to it hearing it live though   devilbang
 - Exodus!!!!  Excellent closer - nothing like hearing the entire crowd sing along to the "chorus"   EX-I-LE!!!

And I have to disagree with Sharktopus regarding Arch's stage presence.  From where I was he basically owned the crowd.  Maybe he jumped around a little much but he was pure energy, accenting both the music and the lyrics.  It's been a long time since I've been at a show where I felt like the audience was all united and on the same page, all responding to the music and completely in sync with the experience.  Someone had even made a banner - when was the last time you saw one of those?  It got passed up to the stage and Arch unfurled it - it read "Thank you Arch/Matheos for this show."   devilbang

I am so thankful I got to see this performance.  The band was excellent but John Arch is just in his own class.  The voice, the melodies, the lyrics.  All unreal.   bowdown

The nice bouncer gave me Joey Vera's setlist too:

Glad you guys liked the show. I've heard lots of great things from everyone who went.

So how much did Bobby Jarzombek rule? I've been a huge fan of his since the first Halford album, but I had NO idea he could be so technically INSANE until I saw the studio footage of him recording the Arch album.  Dude's good.
