I lack the exposure to compile a valid list this year (even though all lists are completely subjective). That said, here are a few albums from 2011 that I like, and am interested in exploring more of:

December Flower -
When All Life Ends
Falkenbach -
Tiurida
ICS Vortex -
Stormseeker
Omnium Gatherum -
New World Shadows
Taake -
Noregs Vaapen
Wolves in the Throne Room -
Celestial Lineage
I'm slowly getting back in the scene and discovering a lot of music I missed out on this past year. But for now, these are a few cool albums that come to mind.

Mine is distressingly predictable this year:
1.) Arch/Matheos - Sympathetic Resonance
2.) Iced Earth - Dystopia
3.) Symphony X - Iconoclast
4.) 3 - The Ghost You Gave Me
5.) Anthrax - Worship Music (this surprised the crap out of me.)
6.) Obscura - Omnivium
7.) Iris Divine - Convergence
8.) Jag Panzer - The Scourge of the Light
9.) Primordial - Redemption at the Puritan's Hand
10.) While Heaven Wept - Fear of Infinity
11.) Inmoria - A Farewell to Nothing - the Diary Pt. 1
12.) Riot - Immortal Soul
13.) In Malice's Wake - The Thrashening
14.) Scale the Summit - The Collective
15.) Arkan - Salam
16.) Evile - Five Serpent's Teeth
17.) Blotted Science - The Anatomy of Entomology
18.) Fury'N'Grace - Diabolism of Conversation
19.) Vicious Rumors - Razorback Killers
20.) Amoral - Beneath
Many of those are good, but not great. Almost no death metal this year, though some pretty decent thrash, and many of the "big names" actually delivered in 2011.
