anybody working on their year end list yet?

i started compiling mine a few weeks ago and pretty much finalized it today, thought i'll probably keep tinkering with it until january.
something i noticed, and i dont know if this means if this was a weak year or just that i dont listen to as much stuff as i used to,but u sually i come up with 30-35 albums at first then narrow it down to 20 for my final list.well this year i could only come up with 23 albums that i cared enough about to even have them be in the running.
oh well,it made the weeding out process pretty easy.

Some good releases, but overall this hasn't been an
outstanding
year, so I haven't given any thought to any year-end list.

I've been conditioned by my years on the BB to keep that in the back of my mind all year long.
And you know, I have found 2011 to be sort of uninspiring so far. I've certainly enjoyed some stuff, but this might be one of those years that produces stuff that I rarely, if ever, play.
2007 was the last year that left me this cold. I picked Down III as my top record that year. I liked it, but my number two record... Candlemass - King of the Grey Islands... is never played.
Anyway, following that, I was blown away the next year by some great releases. I can only hope that 2012 does the same.
As for 2011... a top 15 will be tough.

Top 10 should be easy, and I don't see any problems finding 20 worthy releases...

Pretty good year for me. Nothing has topped the new While Heaven Wept, but I should have no problem compiling a top 20.

I haven't done one in a few years and now that my listening habits are all over the map, doing one for just metal would be embarrassingly small.
Orchid - Capricorn would be number one, easily. Then maybe Opeth? Man, I'd have a tough time coming up with 10. Maybe even a top 5!

Orchid - Capricorn
I love Sabbath but man I found this album pure plagiarism. And boring.

Oh, it's
complete
plagiarism.
And I usually can't stand clones but something about this band..... it's so familiar and done so
perfectly
that I love everything they've done so far. Honestly, when the new Sabbath comes out, I'm not going to compare it to the classics, because that's just silly, it's been over 30 years since then, I'm going to compare it to Capricorn because to me, that's the what the sound of Sabbath in 2011 should sound like.
I totally understand what you're saying though. For some reason, I absolutely love it.

Yea, I don't see me putting together a list this year. I just looked at my 2011 albums and among my most listed to albums from the year are Blizzard of Ozz, Diary of a Madman, Human, The Sound of Perseverance and Hendrix' Winterland and In The West.... which are all reissues and most of you wouldn't count these. Other the those, it's just pretty much Orchid, Opeth, Arch/Matheos, Within Temptation, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Social Distortion. That's pretty much my entire 2011 list.

When that Hendrix Winterland concert was originally released back in 1987 a guy I worked with bought it for my birthday to try to get me to buy a cd player. It worked!
I've listened to greatest hits anthologies by Foreigner, Hall & Oates, 10cc & Joan Jett more than any metal release I've bought this year. Favorite new artist discovery this year Florence & The Machine. In the metal genre 40 Watt Sun.
