Death Re-issues

So....who's been checking out the new Death remixed/remastered re-issues?
So far I've picked up
Individual Thought Patterns
, and I heard the
Human
re-issue on Spotify. They also re-issued
The Sound of Perseverance
, which unlike the other 2 was just remastered, not remixed...but I haven't heard it yet. All of them come with some pretty sweet bonus material (alternate mixes, demos, extra songs, and in the case of ITP, a full live album!).
I think
Human
sounds INFINITELY better...especially the drums. I'd always been a little less keen on that album, and the mix had a lot to do with that, so I'm stoked about the remix. Gonna buy it soon.
As for ITP, I'll repost my thoughts from another thread:
- "They didn't mix DiGorgio's bass completely out of this? Damn."
- The bass has a LOT more low end now...so even though you can still hear the frogs, they're less "tinny" and annoying.
- The guitars are friggin' VICIOUS now.
- The drums have a lot more power. The toms and rides are lower in the mix though (boo!), and the snare is rather raw-sounding (no biggie), but I heard a lot of nuances and new shit I hadn't noticed before!
- I took notice of a lot more guitar work. In fact one of the solos was so much more..."noticeable"...that I was like, "Was this even here before??" haha.
- The live disc smokes! So cool to hear that line-up on an official release.
I'd literally been hoping for a remix of ITP for DECADES.
I wonder if they'll remix any others? It's an automatic buy for me if they do...even though I'm perfectly fine with how all the other ones sound. Human and ITP were the only ones I always thought NEEDED it.

Also, you have your choice between a 2 disc version and a 3 disc version for each album. I bought ITP at Newbury Comics, but they only had the 2 disc. Now I kinda wish I had waited and just ordered the 3 disc through Relapse. Plus I could have picked one of the sweet package deals and got myself a shirt with it. Grrr.

I'm going to order the 3 disc set so you can check it out.
I am glad the froggy noises are somewhat muted.

So that issue of the leads being buried that some dude posted on the BB was not the case with ITP?

No, they're mixed correctly this time rather than being screamingly loud.
Both Human and ITP are worthy purchases without the bonus discs - I only popped for the two-disc versions of both. The live set from ITP is really cool, though.

Not that I don't see the appeal in these (
) but when these were first coming out a while back, I asked a Relapse rep. if they would be available on vinyl. He replied in so many words with a wink and a nudge so I'm going to hold for a few months just to wait and see.
Oh, I do have one more question about ITP - how is the overall volume level? One thing I notice about the orig. is that I have to crank the volume up in my car when that CD is in the player.

Ah, vinyl would be most excellent.
I'm late in appreciating this band, but did rather enjoy the Human reissue when I picked it up several weeks ago.

Yeah, the orig is super quiet. The new version is like twice as loud haha...like any other modern release.

It's not overly squished, though. I think the new mastering job is good - and the old one was crummy, on top of it.

So there are still some dynamics left? So many of the new, LOUDER, albums and remasters are so loudly mixed, it just becomes hard to listen to after a while.

Both this and Human have good mastering jobs - loud, but not fatiguing.
