I finally upgraded my phone from a 2007 flip phone to the iPhone 4.  It's so steep an upgrade, it's absurd.  lol

Decided to go this way for a few reasons-

1.  I can get a 20% discount on my bill because of where I work making the upgrade to the data plan almost negligible.

2.  My old iPod has seen better days and I was going to need to buy a replacement anyway.  Since I had a $100 Verizon credit, I got the 32 gig.

3.  Finally on Verizon.

4.  My old phone couldn't make it through a day without requiring a recharge.

Yes I realize there will probably be a new one out later this year but my old phone was pretty much dead so I needed something now.  I'm not really sure what I would need over what this thing provides anyway.  I'd guess I'll use it as a phone maybe like 3% of the time anyway.  lol

Since I know at least Release, Venom and Hellboy also have iPhones I have a few questions-

1.  How important are screen shields?  I'm anal as hell about my electronics.  I have a case on it now but am not sure if it needs more or not.  In the 10 years I've had a cell phone I think I've dropped it maybe once.  Never dropped an iPod.

2.  Some of the best (free) apps.

I can now be one of those douchebags who's always on his phone instead of talking to real people.  nana

If nothing else it will be a nice challenge to get over my phobia of touching electronics.  Because that's exactly what you're supposed to do with this thing.

I don't have a screen shield on mine.  I did on the first one I had but since the material of the shield was a lot softer than the glass on the phone it ended up all scratched and dirty.  Didn't bother with it on the new one.

As far as apps go, if you like photography, it's not free but Hipstamatic is very cool.
Pandora is great on the phone if you have an account with them.  It's all free (streaming radio wherever you go)
Navagon is a great GPS app (it's not cheap but well worth it if you want a great GPS app)
Local Concerts is a good one to see which bands are coming
Yelp is a great one to use if you're looking for restaurant reviews locally.
If you like to cook, Epicurious, All Recipies and Big Oven are all good for ideas.
Not sure if you ever need to have files available at work and home but Dropbox is very useful for that.
AppAdvice is a free app that reviews apps.  The same people also have AppStart that will walk you though the best apps for just about every category but I'm not 100% sure it's available for the phone.

Let us know what you're looking for (if you even know) and we can make recommendations.

I don't have an iPhone, but I did get a free iPod touch from Comcast a while back.

I'm the same way usually, but I got over it pretty quickly with the Touch.

lol I'm still in the "can't believe I have something that tells me the weather and ooh this is shiny" phase.  lol

Do you sync apps from iTunes or download them right to the phone?  Does it matter one way or the other?

Doesn't really matter.  Once you hook it up to the computer it's transfer the apps over to iTunes and vice-versa.

Ooh, sweet.  devilbang

And for the record, I had this on for about 5 minutes before setting it up with an Iron Maiden wallpaper.  devilbang

When are they going to release the iPhone 5?

Who knows?  There's rumors, but that's all those are.  If you wait for technology, you're going to be disappointed forever because 2 months after you buy the latest and greatest, the next version is already being talked about.

That's true.  So far so good with this though.  I think this is gonna be one of those devices I'll find myself wondering "how did I live so long without this?" in about 4 days.   lol

For the record, the only Apple product I don;t own is an iPhone.  I have an Android phone, only because T-Mobile doesn;t have the iPhone.  But, Apps I do have :)

 :scratch:I thought you had one.

Sports to start would be great  Cool

And I just noticed that it imported all of my favorites from my PC.  That saves me an immense amount of time.  Cool.  devilbang

For Hockey, the Caps have an App, Sports Tap will give you live scores and starts to a number of different sports.  Versus, The Hockey Network and CBC all have dedicated hockey apps as well.

I still remember a few years ago on the BB how Venom was saying he'd never get anything from Apple.  lol

So for like NHL scores, what's the difference between the NHL Gamecenter and just saving nhl.com to my homescreen?  I just learned you can save websites as shortcuts as well.  Pretty nifty.
