It's Grave Digger but like the self titled album, it sounds particularly hungry again. I'll take it. :)

Sounds pretty good. More like the Lulis material. Follow ups to big name albums are kinda lame so I'm not sold on the subject matter, but I'm looking forward to the album for sure.

Picked this, the new Angra and Manticora up (out of the mailbox :P) yesterday. Been awhile since I got a couple regular CDs in the mail. Sounds OK so far. Not as immediate as Ballads of a Hangman, which was incredibly solid. That album didn't have the huge staying power of their classics but I still consider it one of their best. It was a base level Grave Digger album, nothing real special but very well done. Clans just sounds alright. I hoped it would be more diverse, have more great guitar solos and fresh ideas, maybe a return to the Lulis days. It's no return to past glory. It's got a few fresh ideas, a number of standard tracks and only comes off average. Here's to hoping that it will grow on me.
Anyone else?

Mak!
To be honest, it hasn't really grabbed me either...
The Last Supper
is still my fave from the last decade followed by
Rheingold
and
The Grave Digger
, probably followed by
Ballads Of A Hangman
. It's better than Liberty Or Death, but that one was lacklustre at best.
What do you think of the ANGRA?

I think average is a good way to describe this. It's OK, but I think with this sort of meat and potatoes kind of metal like Grave Digger, the songs really have to be good and this time they just seem sort of lacking.
I think The Grave Digger was their last "wow, this is awesome!" disc for me. I miss Lulis in this band.

You know, over the years Liberty or Death has grown on me quite a bit. I still go back to listen to Massada, Silent Revolution, Terrible One. So, with this album, at first I was debating if it was the worst album in a long time! It is growing on me though. I kind lay a ground level with Grave Digger. If it's not amazing it hits the low level, which is "very good but not exceptional." That's where Rheingold, Liberty or Death, The Reaper, and their 80's material falls. The new one may head there as well. Albums like The Last Supper, The Grave Digger, Knights of the Cross, Tunes and Heart of Darkness are the exceptional ones. So I'm never really dissatisfied but merely disappointed. I think this has a shot of rising up after a few more listens.
I haven't really gotten to the Angra or Manticora in detail. Aqua is a strange one and when I listen to it I want it to be all I listen to for a bit rather than splitting time. It sounds very good so far but since it's softer I don't want expectation to way it down. Not to be ironic but I wanted them to come back with a great fire. Instead they came back with a mature, very complex, progressive album. So, it'll be a bit before I can say. The two listens I did give it sounded good. The second listen had The Rage of the Waters blowing me away and a couple other tracks pulling my mind away from other things, a positive sign. I can never get over the talent in Kiko and Rafael's playing. It's tasteful yet, stunning in power. What are your thoughts?

AQUA has so many layers to peel, it might well be the album I enjoy the most so far this year...

I keep trying with this album hoping that it lights a fire and really kicks ass, but it's just not. This may be my least favorite GD album since they reformed. Even Liberty or Death had some stand out moments. This is just pretty mediocre all the way through.

I like the new album and I can't believe anyone finds this worse than the borefest called Liberty or Death?!?
Is this a great GD album? No, but it still rocks pretty hard and is enjoyable.
As for Angra's new album - it's definitely an album that needs attention as most of their discs do. Off the bat, it is a bit lighter and more mid-tempo-ish overall. But the performances are top notch as usual. I like it but I still need more time with this.
Manticora - another solid album from these guys. And again, the vocals may be the weak point for this band (although it's not a big hinderance on this album). But I like this as well.
It's been a really good year for metal with some solid releases from a lot of bands. Considering the very few disappointments (eg. Nevermore, Armored Saint, Ihsahn, Soulfly, etc...) among the many 2010 releases, you definitely have QUANTITY and QUALITY this year.

I just hope the Grave Digger DVD they filmed at Wacken with the band attired in kilts comes out in the US next year. They played all of Tunes of War.
