I've been slim on new releases for months only picking up a handful of albums just the new Labyrinth, Secret Sphere, Rhapsody of Fire, Blind Guardian albums.

I think it'll continue that way for awhile. I do want the new Grave Digger and Angra albums. I may pick up the new Accept. Haven't even grabbed the new Maiden yet. I'll be saving a lot of money at Prog/Power I suppose.
so you are going???

As of now, yeah. Things have played out in a strange way for me over the past 8 months. I'm not sure if this year's PP is the end of a chapter or a new perspective on one that's still being written. I've basically been gone from secular metal and even music in a lot of ways for the length of this year. What I have been listening to is 90% Christian metal and about 10% regular. It's not because I've given up on secular metal or feel I can't listen to anything else but I've chosen a different path for myself that has left me fulfilled beyond anything music ever gave me. A chord was severed and my faith has come out number one. The reason for the Christian metal is more that it keeps my heart focused on bettering myself. For awhile it was all tipped hard in one direction. At that point I told M_K I wasn't sure if I would make it. Now I'm finding some balance and here lately I was getting the itch to just come down and, above all, spend time with some good friends.

Speaking of Christian metal have you heard either Lo-Ruhamah or Slechtvalk? Both excellent, the former is death metal style & the latter black/folk metal.

Yeah. I was listening to Lo-Ruhamah the other day on Myspace and enjoyed what I was hearing. I bought the new Slechtvalk about a month ago and think it's sweet! I had one of their older albums, "The War That Plagues The Land" and thought it was cool but this newest album was a big step up!

I'm not sure how much you'd dig this but Sawol "Through Soil and Skin" seems like it'd be something you'd like. They're more of a doom death band but have a great atmosphere about them. The album just came out in the spring and I've been digging it big time! Check'em out!

Carl Wood had a thread on here about Slechtvalk & I picked up the comp An Era of Bloodshed & A Forlorn Throne but the album he really raved about was At the Dawn of War so I'm going to have to eventually pick that one up.

Yeah that Sawol is right up my alley. So where did you pick up a copy of that from?

I got it from youngside.com but their shipping is cost is set up rather strange. It's $8 no matter what. So if you order one album you over pay big time! I ordered the Sawol and Deuteronomium "From The Midst of Battle" (a solid death metal album) together to make it seem more worth it. It stinks because they've got good prices for the albums themselves. Maybe at some point you could order there if you had a couple things in mind and could splurge.

Recommend a couple of other titles from them to make it worth my while. Do they have any of Slecthvalk's albums on there? I'd like to pick up At the Dawn of War if they carry it. Anyway I trust your musical taste & since I also am a Christian I have no problem with lyrics that reflect that spiritual point of view, in fact I would welcome it. BTW Oracle, with Metal Maximus' poster Peleta, is really good trad metal & the anthology, Desolate Kings, released this year is a worthy purchase in Christian heavy metal.

I'd love to recommend some things but the selection there is so small there really isn't anything else just that Deuteronomium album. I'm not sure if you'd care for it but I'm really liking it.

I'll check out the two you mentioned.  Any chance you're a Holy Blood fan? They're Blackened Folk Metal. I got their stuff a few months ago and it's excellent!

I already have the Sawol & Deuternomium albums in my cart at that site in fact I have the cd/dvd version of the In The Midst of Battle in there just so I can check out what they are like in concert. Just waiting for a bit of folding money before I finalize the order, should be doing that on Wednesday.

So how many releases does Holy Blood have? They sound interesting.

Mak, I checked out some songs by Holy Blood & wasn't into it. I guess you know they have a new one coming out in November.

Yeah I wasn't sure if you'd care for them. The details about the latest album's actual release have been pretty vague but I'm excited for it. I really liked the latest song on their Myspace.

I bought the CD/DVD combo of the Deuteronomium album too. It's got great packaging! The concert is an hour long, the studio footage is 15 minutes and the extras are another 15. Not a bad deal. The concert itself sounds pretty good but the show is for maybe 25 people and it looks like somebody's youth group. :)

Well on the player on myspace they show the artwork for the new album & have it as being released in November.

I'll be placing an order soon!

Thanks for the Oracle recommendation Dick! It sounds perfect for my tastes. It reminds me of an even more powerful Steel Prophet or 80s style Jag Panzer. Just pure American power/traditional metal. Buck Teeth

I got another album similar to that this year The Sacrificed "2012." It's more in the Queensryche/Vicious Rumors mold but has that same harder, heavier American style. Produced 17 years apart they sound like they belong in the same era.
