Damn You All To Hell

1. Prelude
2. I'll See The Light Tonight
3. Don't Let It End
4. Disciples Of Hell
5. I Am A Viking
6. Overture 1383
7. Anguish And Fear
8. On The Run Again
9. Soldier Without Faith
10. Caught In The Middle
11. Marching Out

This is pretty much the template for most of today's euro power metal scene, but back when this came out, there was nothing like it. Yngwie proudly paying tribute to all his influences from Paganini, Bach and Mozart to Richie Blackmore and Hendrix while giving birth to a new sub-genre of neo-classical progressive heavy metal that was about to inspire many young guitarists. Marching Out is without a doubt Malmsteen's most inspired album, but it wouldn't be the masterpiece it became without the voice of Jeff Scott Soto and the awesome keyboard playing of Jens Johansson. Ultimately this is the only Malmsteen release that feels like a real band effort; something that's been lacking ever since. This album has absolutely no filler; personnal faves are 'Disciples Of Hell' , 'I am A viking' and 'Anguish And Fear'.

Not a huge Yngwie fan, but this is easily my favorite album from him-- Soldier without Faith or I am a Viking would be my favorites.

I've never understood why all the recent issues of the cd have the different cover-- I've always thought that the original cover was the quintessential metal album cover-- smoke, Strat, Marshalls, a kneeling guitar player-- I love it.

My parents were always very open-minded about my music-- I had Venom on vinyl with all the satanic overtones, The Plasmatic's Coup d'etat vinyl with Wendy O and the electrician's tape, and those things never bothered them.  I did buy a Marching Out shirt that had the cover on the front and on the back it said "YNGWIE IS GOD" and my mom took it away and wouldn't give it back... :lol:I traded it to a friend for the Metallica "Jump in the Fire" 12''.  I think I got a good deal...

This and the debut are really all I need from this guy.  I especially prefer the debut but this is obviously a more commercially focused effort with far too much of that unreal soloing to ever become commercially accepted. lol:  Great stuff.  shred

Love this album, though my favorite is the debut.  But this album definitely benefits from having more Jeff Scott Soto on it than Rising Force did.  I agree that it's the most band-like effort from YJM.  I still have my original vinyl copy of this.

I had parents who were cool about all this stuff too, thank god.  I don't think they would've minded the "Yngwie Is God" shirt so much (I never owned an YJM shirt  cryingeyesout )  They were more picky about stuff like "Metal Up Your Ass", because they didn't want me to offend anyone haha  But overall they were quite cool.

These early Malmsteen albums really did set the template for alot of European metal later on.  He gets alot of credit as a guitarist but I don't think he gets enough for creating that genre.  And he's still my favorite neo-classical guitarist, hands down.  Many people have come along and played faster and cleaner but they often lack the personal stamp and flair that YJM has, to my ears.

Odyssey was a good album, at the time it came out though it fell a bit short for me compared to the previous albums.  Admittedly though, I haven't given that whole disc a full listen in many, many years.  I think I'll give that a listen now, hopefully time will give me a new perspective on it.

Never got this one.

Picked up Rising Force back in the day, and then the EP which was a prelude to Marching Out (I think).

Favourite bit of Yngwie trivia: Les Claypool of Primus engineered Rising Force.
