I am very sad. Ronnie James Dio, IMO, was THE best singer Heavy Metal ever saw. He was easily one of my favorites ever. Cheers to a long, legendary career and magical musical output.

RIP. When we played with him at Jaxx, I chatted with him at dinner. As Protag said, a gracious and wonderful man, but a perfectionist - without being an asshole about it. The world shall not see his like again soon.

This put a dark cloud over an otherwise beautiful day yesterday. This is metal's heaviest loss yet. One of the gods fell.
Dio will most definitely be missed. Music in general just suffered a big loss. As far as I'm concerned the absolute best vocalists in metal would be Dio, Halford and Dickinson. Major, major bummer that one of them is gone. 2010 has been pretty morbid so far. Steele, Frazetta and now Dio...all in the span of a month.
I blasted
Holy Diver

Last in Line
and
Lock Up the Wolves
yesterday. R.I.P.

Dio was such a great performer too. I saw him many many times over the years, and he never hit a bad note. He always sang perfectly and had total command of the crowd and stage, whether it was a small club or the larger venues.

Watched the Sacred Heart DVD last night. Ronnie was amazing of course.
Seems to be hitting harder today than yesterday. Can't believe he's gone.

that's pretty crazy.even moreso considering that you live in California where Dio's played 900 times in the past 35 years.

It's a headscratcher Tom. I have no idea how it happened.
.......And the lyrics that keep circling in my head....
And they'll tell you black is really white
The moon is just the sun at night
And when you walk in golden halls
You get to keep the gold that falls
It's Heaven and Hell

Even I saw him twice, once with Sabbath & again with his namesake band.

I was lucky enough to have seen him twice...once with heaven and hell, and once with Dio: opening for Iron Maiden
