Michael Schenker is one of the all time great guitar players, but somehow most of his discography seems lackluster and IMHO, he only did one home run and it was with his third album Assault Attack. Perhaps the tension between Schenker and Bonnet in the studio was the key ingredient that made Assault Attack such a mesmerizing affair. I do get goosebumps every time I hear Desert Song and Samurai. The only weak track is Dancer which kinda breaks the flow of an otherwise almost perfect album. Michael has never sounded so inspired than on this record. Almost forgot to add that Martin Birch produced it.

Definitely some cool stuff on here (despite Graham Bonnet-I was never much of a fan of that guy) but the MSG album I always reach for first is MSG with Gary Barden (On and On, Attack of the Mad Axman, Let Sleeping Dogs Lie, Never Trust a Stranger etc.).  Easily my favorite.

Definitely a cool cover on this one though.

Too bad Michael Schenker is such a mess these days.  Easily one of the best in metal.

fuck yeah.

this album has no flaw in my eyes.even the obvious pop song Dancer is awesome for a pop song.

listening to this and Rainbow's Down to earth and you get the feeling Graham Bonnet only did a fraction of what he could've in the Hard rock/Metal world.such an amazing talent.

Love Schenker's albums, but you hit it on the head Hellboy.... Assault Attack is his best work.  I absolutely love this album.  The title track slams, Rock you to the Ground is excellent, and Desert Song is classic.    nana

I disagree 100%.  To me, this is the only album Grvaham Bonnet is good on.  He sucks with Rainbow [even though that Rainbow album with Since You've been Gone is the only Rainbow album that got radio airplay] and he wasn't that good with Alcatraz either.  He's excelent with Schenker.

I'm surprised at the Bonnet bashing...
now McAuley on the other hand was a very poor choice on Schenker's part.  eviltongue

I really like Schenker's playing on basically everything he's done but his solo albums are kind of hit and miss for me in the songwriting department. The UFO stuff and even the Scorpions stuff is much better. This would be my third fave of his after MSG and the debut. I especially like Desert Song. I saw him live when they were McAuley/Schenker Group and to tell you the truth I don't recall anything about the show!  roll
