It's getting closer to Opening Day and hope springs eternal for everyone but Pirates fans.  Now that I'm back in the D.C. area I plan on going to lots of Nats games.  Should be a year of progress if our pitching is just a little better.  I'm hoping for at least 70 wins which would be a great leap forward.  Let's also hope that they don't bring up Strasburg until September.  We don't need a Nats version of Mark Prior!  So....

Let's Go Nats!!

Well, you don't have Dusty "Arm Destroyer" Baker as manager, so you're probably ok on that end.

Actually Venom, we have a stud All-Star third baseman that ANY team would kill for.  We have a slugging first baseman who is good for 40 jacks a year and a shit ton of walks.  We have a future hall of fame catcher (admittedly on the downward swing of his career).  We have another slugging player in LF who teams were clamoring to trade for last year but we wisely kept him.  We have a fantastic defensive center fielder that's fast as shit.  Oh, also a SS who bats over .300 every year and is also an all-star.  Plus, Adam Kennedy at 2nd isn't too shabby, but RF is a question mark.  Ian Desmond, who would be a lock for the SS job if Guzman wasn't making 8 mil this year has played his way into the majors this spring and last september, and he may well end up being great.

As for pitching, John Lannan is fantastic and only getting better.  Jason Marquis had a respectable ERA in Colorado of all places, and, well....admittedly it's downhill from there.  BUT, there are some prospects that have tremendous upside like Strasburg, Storen, Zimmermann, Martin, Mock, etc....  Also Livan can eat tons of innings.  The bullpen will suck as always, but a year without Manny Acta's comical mismanagement will mean more wins automatically.  I don't think 70 wins is an insane thought.  Plus, Guzman may still get traded, getting more prospects in the system and clearing up the SS spot for Desmond.

Go Nats!

Yeah, Braves fans are totally living in the past.  They've got absolutely nothing to look forward to, given that all they've got is a lineup where every starter is - health permitting - going to hit at least 13-15 home runs, an exceptionally deep bullpen and possibly the best starting rotation in baseball 1-5 (the only real competition in that category being the Red Sox).  Oh yeah, and the best hitting prospect to come along at least since A-Rod and probably since Junior.

Looking forward to Opening Day even though watching the Nats is like, well, not fun.

Then I'll quickly get bored of baseball until after the NHL playoffs because there's nothing else going on.

Gonna try to get to a few games this season.
