Breeding the Spawn
's production is not
that
bad. With all the talk about Suffocation on BW&BK I thought to pull it out tonight and give it a spin.

Randomly...
-Metal is the one music that can tap into an unnamed feeling I often get. It connects with me in ways nothing else in the world does. It recharges me.
-Whenever I'm at a show, I feel like a misfit. And then I look around and realize I'm one misfit in a sea of misfits. What an odd and glorious subculture.
-Crowds at small shows are often much smarter than crowds at larger shows. You know why.
-The above observation does not apply to Cannibal Corpse shows.
-The best incredible raw metal of the early '80s will always stand up as some of the most powerful music ever recorded. For my tastes, that's Diary of a Madman, Piece of Mind and Moving Pictures. Things really revved up a few years later with Master of Puppets.
-Every metal band post-1975 should pay royalties to Black Sabbath. Every metal band post-1988 should pay royalties to Metallica.
-Metal's become so huge over the past 25 years, you can always find stuff that will surprise you. I picked up the much-unloved Dactylis Glomerata by Candlemass late last year, and I think it's just brilliant.

Being "dated" will never apply to the best of the best. I get tired of seeing people on the other board say an album from last year is a classic. Who can ever tell at that point? I'm just now starting to label albums from 5-6 years ago as candidates for that title. I've got to come back to it for years after.
Love the comment about revisiting your favorite albums after a long time. Funny how they can lose impact at times from over playing them but when it hits fresh again you are consumed by the album and you find yourself, floored, addicted and totally in love with it again. It's an awesome feeling.

The lack of CD Stores around here has
seriously
changed the way I find new music these days. I used to buy a few every month. I can't even remember what album I bought before Death Magnetic. That really sucks.

Did you pick up the Metallica box this weekend?
And I agree. But then I buy 99% of my stuff online, where I used to only do it 90% of the time.

Nope. It was 50 bucks at Best Buy and Circuit City. I don't really have anywhere else I can go.
I think my exact words were "50 fucking dollars??????? Are you serious?????? Pfffft. Fuck that."
And with that, my hauling adventure died a quick death.

It's $45 at FYE I believe. That's still a pretty decent deal for the content..
Or CDuniverse has it for under $40 shipping included.

I like Deris and Deris Helloween more than Kiske and Kiske era Helloween.
