Breaking The Silence is the debut album from San Fransisco's Heathen.  While never rising about a mid-level thrash band along with Forbidden, Death Angel, Whiplash, they put out 2 quality thrash classic in 1987's Breaking the Silence and 1991's Victim;s of Deception before breaking up for over a decade. While most metal heads prefer the 2nd album, I personally love their debut album more myself.  From the beginning with Death By Hanging (my favorite song), next up is Goblin's Blade.  I remember getting this first as a cassette single before the album was ever released and could not wait until the band released the album so I could purchase it.  Any how, what are your thoughts on this thrash classic?

Track Listing:

   1. Death by Hanging
   2. Goblin's Blade
   3. Open the Grave
   4. Pray for Death
   5. Set Me Free
   6. Breaking the Silence
   7. World's End
   8. Save the Skull
   9. Heathen (CD only)

This is a great album.  Very different from the others at the time due to the vocals which were a lot more melodic and less "metal" than say Baloff, Killian, Hetfield etc.  I thought they worked really well with this band.  The music as fantastic too. I really love the guitar tone on this one.  Full and biting.  My favorite song off that is Goblin's Blade.  I just love that riff after the short "intro" section.

That's the weakest track on there by far IMO.

HEATHEN!!!

They desperately need to put out some new material.  Recovered just wasn't enough for me personally.  Rant

lol  I remember first hearing it at a friend's house-- he'd borrowed it from another mutual friend.  Anyhow, his dog ate it so, being broke-ass high-schoolers, it was months until we heard it again....

Heathen = High quality thrash metal

Breaking The Silence is a great album, but I do enjoy Victim Of Deception a bit more.

Another great band from the Bay Area. devilbang
