on album is fine...LIVE is a COMPLETELY different story....
I like him in both venues. In the 4 times I've seen them live he was never anything other than excellent. I guess I'm lucky because I've heard some dreadful performances on the net. Always liked his voice too.

Love him or hate him, Labrie is a big part of the Dream Theater sound...
He's got a unique and beautiful voice, he just doesn't sound so good when he's trying to sing outside his natural register.

Seen him live twice and both times he sounded very good.

I feel odd that some people actually agree with me that Labrie is a good singer.

Well the same people who dislike him today have, with every new release, been saying he was the weak link for now 17 years on. Thanks to the internet we get to hear them complain a hundred times a year.
I still think the vast majority of DT fans like him. We just hear the group that don't really care for the band or enjoy them despite James, voicing their hate. I've never met an everyday fan that even brought him up. It's all Portnoy and Petrucci are so awesome. It's completely overblown, even the "he's always horrible live" myth is given credence in every Labrie bashfest. He's fine. James has always been good when I've seen them. If you hate the guy before you walk in of course you're going to hear him as garbage at every show.

not true, I love James and he was GREAT in the beginning but you have to admit the man's voice is not what it used to be. Even James will tell you that so will the band.
