I say Dream Theater last year on the Prog Nation tour and James was not great at all on his vocals.  He is INDEED the weak link of the band.  I do wish the band would replace him with someone who can sing ALL the time and not just 40% of the time and with help.

I'm sure he has a humidifier in his "tent"...it would make sense...plus, w/ 8-10 minute instrumental sections, it only makes sense that he gets off stage for a bit...plus he's, what, 46?

Absolutely, one of the best songs on the album...

To my ears, Jordan Rudess is the weak link, his stuff is just too wacky at times and seems somehow detached from the songs.
I really miss Kevin Moore's playing and melodic approach, which fitted DT much better.  Sad

Yeah, to be honest Rudess ruins this album for me more than LaBrie does and I've never been much of a LaBrie fan.  Rudess' parts just seemed tacked on or something, they hardly ever seem to make sense.  Like a Janick Gers solo.

It has taken me years to warm up to Rudess...Kevin Moore was such a perfect fit...his sense of melody combined with general darkness/weirdness was a great facet in DT's sound...his lyrics are among some of DT's finest moments.

Derek Sherinian, IMO, was fantastic...he did his thing and didn't try to copy Moore...his work on "A Change Of Seasons" and the FII album, IMO, is fantastic.

Rudess, while a technically proficient BEAST on the keys, just lacks something...can't put my finger on it...there's just a hole in his contributions somewhere...feels "cold" and unnatural...something is not coming through...I'm just glad he didn't drop that Ragtime lick again on this new album...  lol

That's the first time we've agreed on anything regarding D.T. in many years.   lol

I suspect Rudess is a cybernetic being...

After all these years in DT, anyone else notice he still plays every song following music sheets on his computer screen while performing live!
What's up with that???  scratch

It makes even less sense considering he's been playing the exact same music on every song for nearly ten years.  Since 6 Degrees he hasn't done anything of note to change his style, to add texture or mood beneath the music he's playing under.  It's just random piano or atmospherics buried under the rest of the band.
