From BNR Metal:
Quote
Death Angel emerged from the Bay Area in the mid-eighties, and is often mentioned in the same breath as Heathen, Testament, Forbidden, and others, though their unique style set them apart from the pack just a bit. The young family affair (the lineup consisted of two brothers and three of their cousins, one of which was 12-year-old drummer Andy Galeon) debuted in 1987 with The Ultraviolence, their fastest and heaviest album.
What a fantastic debut, especially given their extremely young ages at the time.  This album was fast and furious from the get go with the song Thrashers just blazing. Voracious Souls also another scorcher. Still love this album today as much as I did in 1987 when I picked up on a whim from the local Camelot Music store in Athens, GA.

Anyone else a fan of this thrash classic??
 Track Listing:

   1. Thrashers
   2. Evil Priest
   3. Voracious Souls
   4. Kill as One
   5. The Ultra-Violence
   6. Mistress of Pain
   7. Final Death
   8. I.P.F.S.

Thor, I can't believe you haven't heard "Kill As One"

The guitar riff right at the beginning of the song is so cool I have it as a ringtone.  devilbang

By the time this was on my radar it was out of print and I didn't really want to shell out for the boxset that came out a few years back.

I've only ever heard Act III and the latest one.  I do dig those.  devilbang

I never get the same reaction as you guys do over this album.  It's not bad by ANY means, but I never thought it compared with any of the other well known albums of the time.  I DO think its awesome what they did, especially being so young.  It's VERY impressive for that alone.  Maybe it's Marks vocals that put me off?  I don't know.  I had it on vinyl when it came out and I bought the box set a few years back and give it a spin every so often but it soon goes back into hibernation.  I even saw them on this tour at Hammerjacks in Baltimore with Bloodfeast and it didn't grab me live.  It's weird, I should love this album but I just don't.  I'd give it a good not great.

Some fantastic songs but having heard Act III first my love for this band runs a different edge.  It's cool for a primal, riff heavy thrash album though.

For such a killer debut by such young musicians, it was earth shattering!  devilbang

Unbelievable song writing for a bunch of Bay Area teens in the mid 80s.  YES
